In an interview with the magazine Lucky, Solange Knowles acknowledges that post-Met Gala elevator incident involving her brother-in-law, rapper Jay-Z. She didn’t exactly address it. In fact, she’d be happy if she didn’t have to talk about “that thing” anymore.
“What’s important is that my family and I are all good,” said Knowles. “What we had to say collectively was in the statement that we put out, and we all feel at peace with that.”
The incident from this past May showed an angry and belligerent Knowles lunging at Jay-Z as she was yanked back by bodyguards. The security footage from inside of the elevator was leaked just days after the incident, leading many to speculate over exactly what was said or done by Solange, her sister Beyonce or Jay-Z.
Once the footage got out, the family issued a simple and brief statement even as the rumors began to swirl over what caused the outburst that night: “Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family.”
During her interview, the singer went on to discuss the relationship she has with her superstar sister. “We’ve always held each other down no matter what,” Knowles explained. “That’s something I’m drilling into [my son] Julez now. I think about all of those phases that I went through, and the ridicule and whatever that I experienced. And I can’t think of one time where I ever felt like I was going to break.”
Despite the real reason for the argument having yet to be revealed, there have been accusations of infidelity on the part of Jay-Z, but nothing has been proven for sure. What seems clear is that Knowles is very protective of her older sister and will always stand up for her.
But she would really like to move on from the incident and put it to rest once and for all.
