A Michigan man shot and killed a 2-year-old girl to torture her father, Detroit Free Press reports.
Raymone Bernard Jackson, 24, shot Kamiya French before opening fire Tuesday at an Inkster, Michigan, housing complex. Her father, 34-year-old Kenneth French, as well as a family friend, were injured in the gunfire. Both are recovering at the hospital.
“The first coward’s in custody. Anybody that feels that they can execute a child in the state of Michigan, we’re going to go after them with everything that we can,” said Michigan State Police Lt. Michael Shaw, according to the New York Daily News.
The Associated Press reports that Inkster police believe the killing and attempted killings were retaliation for an April shooting.
“I wouldn’t call it retaliation. Retaliation for what?” Lt. Shaw said when asked about a possible motive. “I mean just mention that as part of a motive is silliness to me.”
Jackson was arraigned Thursday on first-degree murder, torture and other charges. He is being held without bond.
