Glee star Chris Colfer surprised fans of Fox’s hit TV show when he announced that he had been fired by the network.
“Due to personal issues, I have been let go from the cast of GLEE. Explanations will come shortly…” Colfer tweeted on Thursday.
It turns out that Colfer’s Twitter account had been hacked and the actor has not been let go from the show.
“We’ve been alerted that Chris Colfer’s Twitter account has been hacked,” Fox said in a statement to TIME. “Rumors of his dismissal from Glee could not be further from the truth. We love Chris and look forward to working with him again this season.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Colfer has signed a contract for season six. The actor’s manager told THR that Colfer was on a mid-Atlantic flight and was not able to update his Twitter account with the facts.
TIME notes that the tweet was shared more than 6,000 times and reported on by multiple media outlets before the truth was revealed.
